Tobias Menzies has been booked for the Apple Studios Lincoln assassination series, Manhunt. The limited drama is based on the best-selling novel, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer by James Swanson. Monica Beletsky is the creator of the series. She has also worked on the series, Parenthood and The Leftovers. The story follows Lincoln’s war secretary, Edwin Stanton, played by Tobias Menzies, as he nearly goes mad trying to capture John Wilkes Booth. Beletsky will be the showrunner and executive producer for the series. Her new position stems from her overall deal with Apple Studios. Apple Studios and Lionsgate, POV Entertainment, Walden Media, and 3 Arts Entertainment will produce the series, Manhunt in-house. Layne Eskridge, Swanson, Michael Rotenberg, Carl Franklin, Richard Abate, Frank Smith, and Naia Cucukov will all executive produce. Franklin will also direct the series.
Another Period Drama Series for Tobias Menzies
Menzies previously won a Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in Netflix’s The Crown. That series is about the British royal family. He also astounded viewers with the contrast of roles as Frank and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in Outlander. The brutality of Black Jack and the sweetness of Frank had Claire (Caitríona Mary Balfe) doing a double-take in the series. Menzies had also been in Game of Thrones as Edmure Tully. Additionally, the actor starred in This Way Up as the charming single father opposite Aisling Bea.
Menzies will now take on an American role for the aforementioned Apple Studios limited Lincoln assassination series Manhunt. The role should be no problem for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art alum. The series, Manhunt, approaches Lincoln’s assassination in a whole new way. Menzies will take on Edwin Stanton and will further show his range of acting and accents for the series.
There is no official release date for Manhunt at the moment.
