Today is an excellent day for aspiring filmmakers. Variety reports that TikTok has become an official partner of the Cannes Film festival–an annual international film festival held in Cannes, France. TikTok will be providing the iconic film festival with financial support. With that comes the birth of a massive opportunity for TikTok users: the chance to win an award at the Cannes Film festival. TikTok and Cannes announced the creation of #TikTokShortFilm–an TikTok short film contest that will give three TikTokers a chance to win up to three cash prizes and attend the Cannes Film Festival in person.

Here’s How To Enter The TikTok Film Contest

Here are the official rules for the contest:

  • Submit your video between March 15th and April 8th.
  • Shoot the submission vertically and with a script.
  • Create a video between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in length.
  • Post the video publicly on TikTok and submit it through the official #TikTokShortFilm application.
  • Include #TikTokShortFilm in the caption of the post.
  • Comply with the video requirements as well as TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
  • Obtain any rights for any music used in the video.

#TikTokShortFilm contestants will be judged by renowned directors, whose names will be disclosed at a later date. TikTok’s film contest categories are Grand Prix, Best Script, and Best Editing.  Best Script and Best Editing prize are 5,000 Euros each (approx 5400USD ). However, the prize for Grand Prix is 10,000 Euros (approx 10,9000 USD). The winners of #TikTokShortFilm will be announced on April 29th.

#TikTokShortFilm: Bridging The Gap Of Two Generations of Entertainment

The TikTok film contest will bring huge opportunities for both Cannes and TikTok; The GM of TikTok’s European sector, Rich Waterworth, calls the partnership “an iconic moment that has forever changed the landscape of global cinema.” This linkup may come as a shock to some; TikTok is still fairly new to the entertainment market, while Cannes has been around since the late 1940s. However, TikTok is making a name for itself. It is already among the top 10 most popular social media platforms. Content creators are becoming famous in their own right. Popular TikTokers often make headlines and guest appearances in film and tv.

Now, three lucky content creators will have a shot at a global platform and a chance to take their short film-making skills to the next level.
