In the aftermath of the wild popularity of Netflix‘s latest true-crime documentary series, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, Florida authorities are hoping for new leads on a cold case from 1997: the disappearance of Don Lewis, the second husband of Carol Baskin.
During the filming of the documentary, Joe Exotic, now serving a 22-year jail sentence for hiring a hit on Baskin, accused the woman of killing her second husband and feeding his body to her big cats. While this has never been proven, Hillsborough County officials are hoping that some new leads might unravel this mystery.
On Monday, Chad Chronister, the Hillsborough County Sheriff, took to Twitter, asking Tiger King fans for help in the 23-year old cold case. Chronister tweeted, “Since @netflix and #Covid19 #Quarantine has made #TigerKing all the rage, I figured it was a good time to ask for new leads. #CaroleBaskin #DonLewis #Netflix #Tiger #BigCatRescue #JoeExotic #TigerKingNetflix #HCSO.”
For those who haven’t experienced Tiger King for themselves, it is nearly impossible to explain. Broadly, the show focuses on big cat parks and the questionable people in charge of these parks. However, things take a terrifying turn when violent tendencies erupt between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin, two rival cat park owners. Even that is a vague description of all the depressing drama and unbelievable acts that go down in the newly-released documentary series.
