The fourth installment in the MCU’s standalone Thor films, Thor: Love and Thunder, has just rung in as the third biggest domestic opening at the 2022 Box Office. Thor: Love and Thunder have already hammered in $29 million, starting off strong with Thursday previews alone. After opening day on Friday, (including the $29 million from Thursday), Thor 4 has grossed $69.5 million in total! The film will definitely strike its projected $100 million at the box office by the end of this weekend.

Thor’s return to the big screen in a standalone film sends last week’s triumphant Minion’s: The Rise of Gru down to second place at the Box Office in its sophomore weekend. Thor 4 stands right now as the third biggest opening at the 2022 Box Office after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which racked in $187.4M, and Jurassic World Dominion, which brought in $145M in their respective opening weekends.

The Cast of Thor: Love and Thunder

Directed by Taiki Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder is the 29th MCU film to hit theaters. The box office banging movie brings back Chris Hemsworth, starring as one of our only original Avengers left alive in the MCU, Thor Odinson. Thor 4 also brings back Thor’s ex-girlfriend and love of his life, Natalie Portman, as Dr. Jane Foster, who we last saw in Thor: The Dark World. Jane returns to the Thor films as Lady Thor, for reasons you’ll find out once seeing the movie. Thor: Love and Thunder also introduce a new villain, Gorr the God Butcher, played by none other than Christian Bale.

Also returning for Love and Thunder as part of Thor’s crew is Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie and our lovable Kronan friend Korg (also voiced by director Taiki Waititi).
