The nominations for the 95 Oscar Awards happened just moments ago. The ceremony lasted only about 30 minutes, and for the most part, we think movie fans will be happy with the 2023 Oscar nominations. However, this year’s main Oscar categories had some heavy hitters, so we’re sure the Academy voters had a hard time deciding. Of course, there are a couple of big Oscar snubs, though they mostly got it right.

One of the most significant categories is Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The nominees were Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hong Chau for The Whale, and Kerry Condon for The Banshees Of Inisherin. In addition, Jamie Lee Curtis is nominated for Everything Everywhere All At Once, as is Stephanie Hsu for the same movie. Angela Bassett’s nomination is notable because she’s the first MCU actor nominated for an Oscar.

The Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role category is just as stacked. Brendan Gleeson received a nomination for Banshees of Inisherin. Brian Tyree Henry got one for Causeway, and Judd Hirsch has one for The Fablemans. Also nominated are Barry Keoghan for Banshees and Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The 95th Oscar Awards will air on March 12th on ABC.

The Oscar Snubs Start With Lead Actress

Though most of this year’s main Oscar nominations went over fairly well, the lead actress group has one significant oversight. Best Lead Actress includes Cate Blanchett for Tar, Ana de Armas for Blond, and Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie. Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh also got nominations for their respective films. Missing is Viola Davis for The Woman King. Viola was a shoo-in for the best actress nomination. However, she is now one of this year’s biggest Oscar snubs.

For Actor in a Leading Role, Austin Butler got one for Elvis, Colin Ferrell got one for Banshees, and Brendan Fraser was nominated for The Whale. In addition, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy received nominations in the category.

James Cameron is another of this year’s biggest Oscar snubs for Best Director for Avatar: The Way of Water in this year’s main Oscar categories. Did your favorite actor or actress receive an Oscar Nomination?
