11-bit Studios, makers of underrated hit Frostpunk, has announced a new DLC add on to their classic This War of  Mine. The hit released in 2014, has been steadily getting ported to consols and has had one DLC, The Little Ones. The game itself is an unflinching look at the effects of war, but not from the side of an overpowered supersoldier or a tactical genius, but of a simple civilian. You take control of a group of civilians in an abandoned house and try to manage recourses and scavenge scrap to build improvements to the house to heat, and make life as comfortable as possible. While doing this though, you have to manage the stress level of your group like getting robbed, having to steal and even being forced to kill take a toll on your group, as they begin to fight, argue and maybe even contemplate suicide.

The Little Ones DLC Released in 2016, takes all that stress, drama, and heavy material and adds children characters to the mix. Despite some missteps, it was still considered a great and welcome addition to the game. Even though the drama was someone lessened by the age-old problems of invincible children is added to the game, the children ate more rations and needed a few more resources but they improved the overall morale of the group, which as explained before could be invaluable.

The new addition to the game, titled Fading Embers, seems to take several deviations from the main gameplay. It looks possible that instead of a group of survivors you’re taking care of a single character as they fight and survive their way out of the war-torn country that has been the center of this series since the first game.

This War of Mine: Fading Embers drops for PC and Mac August 9th, 2019, with a possible console launch later this year.
